Sam Johnson, Worship Pastor
I spent my childhood in Garland, TX, where I grew up in the Church, and was raised in a family that values Jesus, music, and an active lifestyle. I've played soccer basically from the time I was born, and took music lessons from a young age.
God used many people in my life to call out my gifting and encourage me towards serving in ministry. My dad led worship at various times through my childhood - a great inspiration to me. In high school, our worship pastor encouraged me to think about worship ministry as a vocation. I studied at Baylor University in Waco, where I received my BM in Church Music, and later graduated in 2019 with a Masters of Music and a Masters of Divinity.
My wife and I met in choir at Baylor and served in the music ministry at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, and were married in May 2016.
In May 2022, we moved from Waco to Wichita with our kiddos, when I was invited to be the Worship Pastor at Hope. Here at Hope, we love the focus on Jesus and emphasis on following Jesus in relationship together!
I love spending time with my family. We love to adventure together and spend any time outside we can. I'm convinced my kids would sleep outside and bathe in the lake if we let them!
While I love being at Hope and leading worship, I’m actually extremely introverted - but don’t let that stop you from introducing yourself to me. I truly love people and building relationships, but I go home after a Sunday morning completely exhausted!
I'm so grateful to be the Worship Pastor at Hope. I get to disciple our musicians and congregation through worship and other music-making avenues.
