Graphics

A few guidelines (not rules!) for making Hope graphics more consistent.

This is only for materials (digital or print) sent to Hopesters, guests, and the public. For example: handouts, posters, t-shirts, and social media posts.

For in-house (staff to staff) communications, use whatever you wish.  :)

Fonts

To be consistent with our website and other "corporate" materials, these are the recommended fonts (2024). Detailed notes follow.
See asterisked footnote for where to download these fonts.

Main heads:
Bitter Bold* or Bitter Black*
(If Bitter isn't an option in the app or website you're using [I'm looking at you, Zazzle!], Roboto Slab Bold is an acceptable sub.)

When you need a more condensed (compressed side-to-side) font for heads:
ASAP Condensed*  (casual)
Barlow Condensed  (extremely condensed; more serious)

PLEASE NOTE! Main headlines are where you have great latitude in font choices. If Bitter or ASAP Condensed works for your look, great. But there are lots of events and occasions where you may want a font that's more fun, or Christmas-y, or whatever. Go for it! Please just make sure it's legible. (And also avoid the fonts NOT to use, at the end of this section [look for Stern Steve].)

Subheads:
Bitter Bold* or Open Sans Bold*
(similar fonts that are probably already on your computer: Calibri Bold or Geneva Bold)

Body copy:
Open Sans Regular*
(similar fonts that are probably already on your computer: Calibri or Geneva)

*Where to download:
These fonts are free through Google Fonts:
Bitter Black is free, but only available here:
Please DO NOT use THESE FONTS in any place:
These are inappropriate or over-used.
  • Arial
  • Brush Script
  • Cambria
  • Comic Sans (unless you know how to use it ironically)
  • Helvetica
  • Impact
  • Papyrus
  • Times or Times New Roman

Colors

Here are the main colors in the current Hope CC palette. You're completely welcome to use these alongside other colors, or to use other colors without these. These are just here for those times when you want to use something consistent with our branding.

You may use colors for headlines and sometimes subheads, but always make paragraph text black.

In the graphic below, the number below each color is its hex code, for use in Photoshop, etc. The words below the number is what that color is called in Canva.

Following this image is a list of the colors and their codes in text format, if you want to cut and paste them.

Questions?

How to create a QR code:

This is my preferred method. Copy the URL you want to use, go to tinyurl.com, and follow the instructions to shorten the URL. Then click the blue button below that says "QR," and choose the "Download PNG" button. It will then put the QR code in your Downloads folder. (Why shorten the URL? It reduces the number of dots or squares in the QR code, making them larger and easier for a camera to read.)

If your URL is long, go to tinyurl. Shorten the URL and copy it to use in Canva. Go to this page, and click "Use in a new design," and click "Doc" in the drop-down menu. Use the info in the lefthand area to input your URL, and change colors if you wish. Once the QR code is generated, use it in your Canva project, or do a screenshot to copy and paste it into another application.

Just need to send people to the home page? Below is a pre-made black-on-white QR code that takes you to welcome2hope.com.
