Solitude

Have you ever noticed how some of life’s clearest moments come when we’re alone? Maybe it’s in the shower when there are no screens to distract you, or when you’re driving by yourself and your mind can wander freely. Solitude has always been a sacred space for visionaries—artists, thinkers, and even Jesus Himself withdrew to be alone. It’s not about isolation but about creating a space where our minds can rest, reflect, and recharge.

But let’s be honest: those quiet moments aren’t always filled with clarity. Sometimes, they make us sit with things we’d rather avoid—our pain, our anxious thoughts, or questions we’ve been too busy to face. And yet, even there, God meets us. He doesn’t shy away from the hard parts of our lives. Instead, He enters into them, offering us comfort, guidance, and His steady presence. In these moments, we find often find freedom: freedom from the noise, from expectations, and from the distractions that pull us in every direction. God is daily inviting us into these spaces, offering us time to reconnect with Him and hear His voice.

Studies have shown that solitude not only calms our hearts, but can also spark creativity and allow us to process emotions in a healthier way. It’s here, in the quiet, that we can reorganize our thoughts, let go of stress, and reflect on our walk with God. As Jesus retreated to pray and be renewed, we too are called to pause and be still.

This Christmas, as the world speeds up, let’s choose to slow down. Let’s embrace an unhurried pace, creating room for quiet moments where we can meet God and find the peace He offers. Whether it’s a quiet walk, time in prayer, or simply sitting in stillness, consider how you might let this season be one of slowing down and drawing near.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10

Peace,
Nick
