The Sky Is Speaking

There are things that words can’t describe. There are moments that make us feel really small, times when we look up and shake our heads in awe. Last weekend I just happened to be “in the middle of nowhere” Kansas on a clear night with the perfect opportunity to see the Northern Lights. The canvas of the skies displayed some breathtaking brushstrokes of a master artist.

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4)

Do you hear creation speaking of God’s glory? The fine-tuning of our universe. The incessant beauty seen in creation. The vast expanse of the heavens. It all speaks of the indescribable, incredible glory of God. Listen! Look up! Don’t miss it!

Don’t forget that all of these physical wonders we observe are just the creation. Imagine the vastness, immensity of the Creator who has made all of these incredible sights and
phenomenon! And as we consider these cosmic truths, be reminded that our Creator is also
personal and relational. He is involved in our lives. He knows us. He cares about us.

You have searched me, LORD,
    and you know me. (Psalm 139:1)

We can try to make sense of how God does everything he does, but we are only grasping at straws.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain. (Psalm 139:6)

The exercise of attempting comprehension of this stuff leads us to worship God. When we see who God is and what He has done, our response should always be to bow to the King, who made all, ordered all, and rules over all. It is a beautiful, wonderful mystery. Let us keep looking up in wonder and amazement, grateful to the one who holds everything in His hands. Yay God!

Blessings,
Pastor Mark
