I've stood at the front of a lot of weddings over the last twenty years. And right before the vows, I often notice the same thing. Two people who already know they love each other. Who decided that months ago, if not longer. They could keep living that way and never say a word of it out loud. But they don't. They stand up in front of everyone who matters to them and say it anyway.
Something happens when belief goes public. The wedding doesn't create the love. It names it, in front of witnesses, and that changes how you carry it afterward.
Baptism works the same way.
If you've placed your faith in Jesus, you already belong to Him. Baptism doesn't make that true. It declares it. Paul says it this way, that we were buried with Christ through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (Romans 6:4). It's a public yes to a decision that's already been made in private.
That's why I want to invite you into it.
Maybe you've trusted Jesus but never been baptized. Maybe you were baptized as an infant and have never made that choice for yourself as an adult. Maybe you're in a season where Jesus feels closer than He has in a while, and you want people to know it. Either way, I'd love for you to consider it.
Before our baptism Sunday on September 13, we're offering a short class to walk through what baptism is, why we do it the way we do, and whatever questions you're carrying into it. Nothing complicated. Just a conversation before the water.
Pick whichever time works for you. Aug 23, 10:45. Aug 30, 5pm. Sep 2, 6:30pm. Sep 8, 6:30pm. Sep 9, 6:30pm.
You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to be ready to say out loud what you
already believe. We'd love to stand with you when you do.
peace,
Nick
