Earlier in the year, I remember a night I was at one of my kids’ games, just doing the normal parent thing—camped out on the bleachers, trying to follow the action. And you know how it goes: game starts, phone buzzes, you glance down to check a text, maybe answer an email, scroll a little without thinking.
Then it happened.
I looked up, and one of my kids was scanning the sidelines, eyes locked on me, just checking to see if I was watching. And I wasn’t. I missed the play. Missed the moment. Missed the look.
Ugh. Gut punch.
There’s something deep in us, even as grown-ups, that just wants to be seen. To know someone’s paying attention. That we matter enough to be noticed.
And it hit me—God never misses the moment. He’s never distracted. Never glancing at His phone. Never zoning out. He’s locked in.
Psalm 121 says, “He who watches over you will not slumber.” That’s not just about God staying awake—it's about Him being completely present. Always. Even when we’re not performing. Even when there’s no "highlight reel" to watch. His eyes are still on us. That’s truly a comforting thought to me.
Because if I'm being honest, I'm not always fully present—not with my kids, not with people, sometimes not even with myself. But God is. He’s fully engaged. Fully attentive. All the time.
So wherever you are today—on the field, in the stands, or just trying to survive another Wednesday—you can look over, and He’s watching. Not with judgment, but with delight.
You’ve got His attention. Always have.
Peace,
Nick
